.45 AR15

This projected was started on a whim based on a conversation with 98Z5V a fellow admin at our sister site 308AR.com. While I had pondered building a .45 or 10mm AR-15 for some time it was 98Z5v who actually pushed me over the edge and got me motivated to get this profect going.

I decided to go with .45acp over 10mm for a few reasons. The first reason is ammunition. I have many .45acp handguns and tend to stock a fair amount of ammunition. The second reason is the cost of 10mm ammunition is substantially more than .45acp.

This is a pretty simple project as there is not a lot of choices in .45acp AR-15 hardware.

OLYMPIC ARMS AR-15 UPPER RECEIVER – OLYMPIC ARMS is the only company I know of that sells .45acp AR-15’s as complete rifles or as uppers alone. OLYMPIC ARMS has a reputation for reliable and accurate firearms. There really was no other choices to choose from.

SPIKES TACTICAL STRIPPED LOWER RECEIVER – While there is an option on the web for dedicated .45acp LOWER RECEIVERS that feature high capacity magazines I chose a standard lower that will utilize  OLYMPIC ARMS proprietary magazines. This gives me a lower that can be used with any .223/5.56 NATO upper.  I went with the SPIKES TACTICAL because they have a good reputation, they are priced right and Brownells has them in stock. A few interesting features to note. The SPIKES TACTICAL LOWERS are matte black and the contrasting red and white safe/fire markings look nice. I can take or leave the spider logo.
